Art Work

Actor | Sabiti – Theatre Village-2022

The Production: Based on the powerful short story by the late Jagadish Ghimire, Sabiti is a highly experimental play that unmasks the deep-seated societal structures unfavorable to women.

The Ensemble: I had the distinct honor of sharing the stage with veteran actress Anuradha Majumder and co-actor Sajan Kumar Shrestha in this compelling production.

Thematic Depth: The narrative pulls back the curtain on biased social norms, political commercialization, and the systemic inequalities embedded within daily necessities like education, healthcare, and social justice. While the original story was written from a male perspective, this adaptation subverts the narrative by placing a female character at the center stage. It highlights how she is confined by multiple layers of patriarchal dominance and unequal social realities, touching upon the intersectionality of gender, class, and caste.
Artistic Exploration: Drawing closely from philosophical themes of Nihilism, the play boldly comments on and questions the core roots of what society accepts as normal.

Critical & Audience Reception: Because of its highly experimental nature, the production pushed traditional boundaries of performance. It was a resounding success, earning immense praise from both prominent theatre critics and audiences alike for its execution and thematic bravery.

Director | Maanjhakri – Premier International Literature Festival-2022

The Production: Written by the prominent playwright Puru Lamsal, Maanjhakri was selected as a major highlight of the Premier International Literature Festival.

Directorial Vision: Rather than simply executing a literal staging of the script, I chose to expand upon the playwright’s text by infusing my own artistic imagination. I recontextualized the narrative, transforming it into a highly creative, visually rich, and deeply metaphorical production.

Ensemble Direction: Under my direction, the young student actors delivered an extraordinary and evocative performance. They masterfully navigated the abstract and symbolic layers of the play, captivates a highly discerning festival audience.

Pedagogical Fusion: This project beautifully demonstrated my approach as an artist-educator: encouraging student agency, pushing past traditional theatrical boundaries, and teaching young people how to embrace complex, imaginative storytelling.

The Production: Palpasa Café is the official theatrical adaptation of the landmark novel written by Narayan Wagle. Light Designer & Operator | Hamlet (Nepali Adaptation) 2016

The Collaboration: This landmark production was a prestigious collaboration between Theatre Village Nepal and the British Council Nepal, directed by acclaimed British director Gregory Thompson.

The Context: The project held immense cultural significance. Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre had traveled to Nepal to perform the English version of Hamlet at the historic Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Immediately following that performance, it was Theatre Village’s responsibility to debut the Nepali adaptation the very next day.

The Technical Role: Following its initial high-profile staging, the play transitioned to a regular run for local theatre audiences at Theatre Village Nepal. During this run, I worked behind the scenes, taking on the crucial technical role of light designer and operator to help shape the mood, atmosphere, and visual narrative of the tragedy.

Actor | Malini  2015

The Production: Directed by Bimal Subedi and staged at Theatre Village in Kathmandu, this production offered a brand-new, post-dramatic interpretation of Rabindranath Tagore’s classic poetic play.

The Dual Perspective: Having previously portrayed the major antagonist, Kemankar (Khemankar), at the NAPA International Festival in Pakistan, returning to the character in this local staging was a fascinating creative exercise. While the Pakistan showcase leaned heavily into physical theatre, this new version in Nepal balanced physical performance with powerful text, giving equal weight and deliberation to the dialogue.
